Do Traditional Family Photo Sessions Stress You Out? Try this Instead!
There’s a new type of family photography that is becoming really popular. And, not many photographers (or clients) are talking about it. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
We all know the typical Hesperia family photography session set out at a local park where the family is walking and holding hands.
Or, the family session out in a dry lake bed where everyone is dancing and smiling for the camera.
And hey, I love those as much as the next Hesperia family photographer!
But, I want to tell you about a low-stress, high-vibe, fun family session that doesn’t require bribing your husband or kids for a cheesy-smiley family photo session!
Let’s talk about "A Day in the Life" photography session.
Have you heard of these?
If you're wondering, "What the heck is she talking about?" then you're in for a treat!
The day-to-day family moments feel mundane now, but you know, in 20 years, they will be what you want to remember.
Waffles and cartoons on Saturday mornings.
The trips to the fro-yo spot after school.
Mommy and me classes.
Family walks or bike rides around the neighborhood.
Imagine having a photographer follow you and your family around to capture those perfectly imperfect moments of everyday life.
Hire a photographer to follow you around and capture everyday moments.
“A Day in the Life" photography session is like a time capsule of you and your real, unedited family life. No fancy outfits or posing under bright studio lights. It's all about showing the tangible memories of what life truly feels like in this moment.
I’ve never done a session like this, but I wish we had. My last baby just graduated from 8th grade and I’m sad. I wish I could remember all the little day-to-day life occurrences. I was in survival mode for so many years, that I blocked out a lot. One memory that comes to mind is homemade pizza night. It was always messy and tedious, but a fun memory nonetheless.
Reasons to Choose A Day in the Life Hesperia Family Photography Session
Many of my clients have opted to choose this type of session because it’s something different than the norm! It’s raw and unfiltered.
Authenticity Over Perfection: Something is refreshing about capturing life as it is- Messy, exciting, and loud. These photos tell your story, the beauty in routine, and the love that fills the everyday moments.
No Pressure: For busy moms, especially if you have babies and toddlers at home, the thought of coordinating a photo session can be daunting. The "A Day in the Life" session fits seamlessly into your schedule. Whether it's a lazy Saturday or that mid-week hustle, it's about your life, as it is, with no extra stress.
Customize Your Day in The Life Family Session
Some families choose to have me jump into their normal routine, while others do a little planning ahead of time. Here are some ideas from past “Day in The Life” Sessions:
Mini Golf + Sno Cones
Unwrapping Christmas presents and making Christmas cookies
Getting frozen yogurt and shopping at Target (yes really!)
Visiting the park and feeding ducks
Waiting for the new baby (doctor’s visit, prepping nursery, etc.)

How to Make it Happen!
If you’re anything like me, the idea of not having to get outfits together and stressing out sounds pretty great! So here are some tips for making your “A Day in The Life” session a success:
Plan a day that’s normal for your family: This is going to make the session and the memories extra special. You’ll look back and remember it as something your family did all the time, not “that one time we went to this strange new place for photos.”
Choose your activities: Start paying attention now, to your day-to-day activities as a family. What do you do every week or every month that everyone has fun with? An older siblings’ basketball game, taco Tuesday, dance lessons, a monthly trip to grandma’s, etc.
Don’t stress about how you look: I get it mama, we all want to look our best in photos, but this is about the memories (not making sure everyone looks perfect– and that includes you)!
“I didn’t think I’d like taking the pictures, but you gave me such a huge confidence boost. I can’t wait to do this again.” - Regina
