Who are Portraits for? Kids and Adults in Hesperia|Creative Family Photographer

I’d love to photograph you!

I often get asked if I photograph this person or that person. Do I photograph families? The answer is yes.

If you’re a marvelous human— I’ll photograph you in a box, with a fox, or in your own bedding, and at your wedding. I’m obviously not a poet, though. Ha!

I’ve done a handful of weddings—But, I’m a portrait photographer.

However, the right person comes along, and I happily share in their joyous occasion of popping a baby out or getting hitched.

IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK.
— Someone smart

That saying speaks loudly to people, especially photographers. We don’t show everything and anything we photograph.

So, just ask! The answer might surprise you.

Branding Photos

These are photos that you think of as headshots, small business images for social media, websites, or your new business card. And, more!

Yes, I do branding photos. If you’re a small business in Hesperia or the High Desert, I’d love to take your branding photos.

A little photographer rule is to keep our website images updated. And, refresh our images every few months. And, you should update your images on your website periodically, too.

Have you ever seen that dated realtor sign in your neighborhood? It’s a photo of Kathy and her 80s-looking big hair? She needs an updated photo. Don’t be a Kathy. Get an updated photo.

If you’re an artisan or maker, you need branding photos, too. People want to see where you pour wax and how you insert the wick.

Weddings

I’ve been asked if I do weddings by several people. And, the answer is, yes!

I love doing weddings. They’re fun and super interactive. It’s a long day and a lot of work.

But, I just love love!

Weddings are like portrait sessions on steroids! “You get a picture, you get a picture, you get a picture!”

Fun fact: I learned how to take wedding photos from online courses and in-person classes. I’ve learned from multiple master wedding photographers. I’m not simply going out there with a camera and a prayer.

For me, weddings are great for networking. I meet a lot of great people while photographing them. I’ve learned problem-solving on the fly, and it’s just an all-around good time.

Yes, there are hiccups throughout the day, but life is messy, and weddings aren’t any different. And, they include a huge cake!

I’ve photographed a handful of weddings, from a simple Hesperia courthouse to a destination wedding. Each one was completely different than the other and I loved them all!

If you want me to celebrate with you and be a part of your special day, please just ask!

Seniors, Kids, Families, and More

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

What is considered more? I don’t know. That’s up to you.

I have four kids. I know how hard it can be to schedule a family photography session. And, it can be even worse, trying to figure out outfits and getting that one family member to show up. On time.

I do not charge more if you have more people in your party. I personally think that’s silly. But, to each their own. To me, the more the merrier.

If you want your high school graduate to have a photo session by themselves, I can do that. It will be tailored around them and their hobbies and interests. Disclaimer: I always make mom get in a photo too, so wear something nice (not sweatpants) and apply a little mascara.

Or if you want the whole family—Uncle Joe, Grandma, and the family dog done at the same time, we will make a day of it.

Newborn and Maternity

Yes to both of these as well.

I recently did a creative maternity session, and I wrote a whole blog post about it, here. It was a ton of fun.

I never had maternity photos taken. Do I regret it? Yes.

It might feel unimportant at the time, but you’ll look back in 10 years and be so thankful you did them.

Maternity portraits make nice wall art for the nursery or your bedroom. You can go as big as you want. As nude as you want. If you want simple belly images or flowy gown photos, it’s up to you. They really are a piece of art. Your art.

They can also be an anchor image for a family gallery wall.

Newborn sessions are unique, and as we know, babies arrive on their own time and when they want.

You can choose a “Fresh 48” session—a baby born within 48 hours, 1-2 weeks old, or 1-month-old.

The sky is the limit.

Just know that babies change drastically from the time they are born through the first few months. If you wait too long, you won’t capture their newborn wrinkles, tiny toes and fingers, or sweet newborn face.

This session type is booked in advance with a (3-ish weeks) time frame kept in mind for both of us. Meaning, I won’t plan 3 destination vacations back to back. You are my priority.

For newborn sessions, I don’t pose the baby in curled-up positions. I don’t pose them at all. This is more of a lifestyle session. I come to your home and simply take photos of your baby. You and your partner holding the baby, feeding the baby, and your other children will be in photos as well.

Don’t think of this as a family portrait, but think candid, everyday routines, oh, and there’s a new baby as well.

You can change outfits and put them in positions, but I am hands-off for this type of session. I’m there to simple capture the new memories.

I Won’t Do…

  • Events including birthday parties, graduations, car shows, chamber events, etc. I don’t get the personalization with clients by doing this type of photography. I leave this up to the event experts.

  • No sports. I will take portraits of your kiddo in their basketball uniform, but not during their game. That’s a different type of photography, and I leave it to the sports photographers.

  • Product photography. I started out as a product photographer, and I always felt like something was missing. I later found out what was missing. The People. I was missing people in my photos. I love people!! Taking photos of products doesn’t spark joy in me— Although I will take photos with you and your products for branding photos, of course.

  • Newspaper and Journaling. This is similar to events, and I would rather get to know my clients rather than take photos of strangers.

  • Landscapes and nature. Oh, this one hits deep. My dad is a landscape photographer and always takes photos of mountains and rocks. Not ever one of me. Or people. He’s the reason I grew up not liking photography, so landscape photography is a hard pass for me.

I hope this sums up the many different styles and genres of photography I am willing to do, or not do.

I love people and I love connections even more! If you still have questions about whether or not I’ll take the type of photos you’d like, send me a message.

It never hurts to ask.
